Percy the Small Engine: Small but Terrible

In the popular children’s television series, “Thomas the Tank engine and his Friends,” the story depicted several engines get on with the different adventures that come their way.

One of the popular engines included in the renowned television series is a small engine with a prototype of an “avonside steam saddle tank engine that was changed beyond identification.” This very distinct character was known as Percy the Small Engine.

Aside from the popular children’s television series, Percy the Small Engine was also included in the well-liked books, “The Railway Series,” written by Reverend Wilbert Vere Awdry and his son, Christopher Awdry.

Actually, it was Rev. Awdry idea about these engines which he had written to amuse his son Christopher after recovering from measles. Also, the stories stated in the television series and in the books were based on Awdry’s personal experience and fascination with railway engines.

1. Percy is a green-colored engine described as one type of tank engine that has 0-4-0 wheel arrangement. This means that he has no primary and trailing wheels but only four driving wheels. He is also known to be the number 6 on the “Sir Topham Hatt’s Railway.” Sir Topham Hatt is known to be a chairman of the railroad industry.

2. Percy the Small Engine is known to be the youngest among all the major locomotives in the story. His character is cheerful and a joyful, which can be traced back to his unique petite appearance.

3. Unlike the other engines, Percy the Small Engine is often found arguing with Thomas the Tank Engine. They usually debate on matters that, in reality, are of no importance at all. But in spite of this, Thomas and Percy are really good friends.

4. Percy was first known in the book number 5 of “The Railway Series.” The particular scene was entitled “Troublesome Engines,” which was initially brought out in 1950.
