Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends boasts of a great cast of friends who make his adventures more fun. Among them is Duck – one of the kid’s favorites – a friendly old fellow who everyone admires for making things work.
Montague "Duck" the Great Western Engine is a steam engine that runs the branch line between Tidmouth and Arlesburgh. He is one of the most cheerful characters in the series and is steady and doesn’t take any nonsense from others.
His train build is based on the 0-6-0 Pannier Tank, and he stays and works in the Island of Sodor. He is painted green and has GWE printed on his side.
Despite being a small engine, Duck doesn’t take nonsense from other bigger engines. He is also renowned for being busy yet cheerful.
Although every kid knows him as Duck, his real name Montague, but you won’t catch anyone calling him that! He got his nickname from the fact that when he rides at high speed, he ‘waddles along the tracks.’ He first came to the Yard after Percy went over to the branch line Thomas was at. Even though another character Diesel, spread lies about him, things still worked out well since the Fat Controller realized that Duck was such a useful train. He was eventually given his own branch line.
Ever friendly and ever cheerful, Duck is confident in making things run. The Fat Controller even says of him, “He makes things run like clockwork.” And as Duck says, "There are two ways of doing things, the Great Western Way or the wrong way."
There are many Duck model replicas and toy figures available today. Kids love Duck and the Thomas’ other friends and delight at being able to collect them all. Collectors relentlessly scour toy stores to add Duck to their fine toy collection.
