Thomas the Train (also known as Thomas the Tank Engine) is a blue tank engine - a fictional character that was modeled from a steam tank engine. The 1st locomotive of the 'Sodor Railways' who lives on the island of Sodor, Thomas the Train first appeared on the original stories of the Reverend W. V. Awdry entitled "The Railway Series." Created in 1940, the story of Thomas the Train was made for Christopher, the Reverend's son. Since then, it has been made popular among children; from the television series "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends" (which was recreated by Britt Allcroft in 1984), to the film "Thomas and the Magic Railroad."
From the hit television series and film, Thomas the Tank Engine has reached out to millions of children (and even those who are 'young-at-hearts' as well) through various product lines, some of which are the following:
· Books
· Bed (and Bedroom) articles
· Clothing
· Bath (and Bathroom) articles
· School supplies
· Bags (Backpacks)
· Party Supplies
· Lunchbox and Plates
· Videos (CDs and DVDs)
Along with all of that merchandises can also be found (perhaps most especially) Thomas the Train games, toys and puzzles that range from the simple to the complex, and from the basic to the advanced.
The Number Game
This game enables children to learn the basic math skills such as learning, counting, and adding numbers. With the use of a playing board, number pieces (or cards), a train car, and/or a spinner (for advanced levels), players choose the numbered pieces and put them in the train car.
The Domino Game
This game enables children to learn and enhance their matching skills with the use of the domino playing pieces. In addition, players learn how to take turns as well.
The Matching Game
This game enables children to further enhance their visual and memory skills by matching identical pictures.
The Tic Tac Toe Game
This game enables children to learn to formulate their own strategies. With the use of a game board and engine tiles, players race to win the game by making 'three in a row'.
The advancement of technology has made it possible for manufacturers to bring these games "online" - nowadays, children can play these games in the computer; and where the game requires 2 or more players, children can play either against the computer or against other children who are connected to the same computer.
In addition, video games have also been created to cater not only to children but also to the 'advanced' and 'not-so-young' players as well. The initial, one-player video games were made available for the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis platforms, offering numerous game features such as answering trivia questions, designing your own tracks, racing with other players, and unscrambling puzzles.
These Thomas the Train games are available for children of all ages. With these games, children are given the chance to enjoy not only the character of Thomas the Tank Engine (and his friends) but also the pleasure that each Thomas the Train game has to offer - where players get to learn different good values (such as sharing and waiting for one's own turn) and enhance their skills and abilities (the basic math skills, matching skills, and forming a strategy) while being entertained - an excellent choice for children, and their parents as well.
All aboard!
