Toys are either a sole device or one of the many things that children (and even adults) play with or use in an enjoyable activity. They have long been in existence (dating as far back as the time of the Inca), and they take numerous forms, which are generally classified into the following:
· Construction toys (such as Lego, Mega Bloks, and Tinkertoys)
· Figures (such as dolls, toy soldiers, action figures, and stuffed toys/animals)
· Drawing toys (such as stencil)
· Educational toys
· Mechanical toys and puzzles (such as Jack-in-the-box and Rubik's cube)
· Miniaturized items (such as toy piano or weapons)
· Model building and collecting (such as model railways and matchbox cars)
· Science and optical toys (such as View master)
· Physical activity toys (such as Frisbee, Yo-yo, and Hula Hoop)
One particular (and famous) toy is the Thomas the Train set, based from a fictional tank engine named Thomas the Train (also known as Thomas the Tank Engine) that starred in the hit television series, "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends." A blue tank engine (he was modeled from a steam tank engine), Thomas the Train originally appeared in Reverend W.V. Awdry's stories that he made for his son, Christopher. This was published in "The Railway Series" in 1940, and since then Thomas the Tank Engine has been the most famous fictional locomotive all over the globe.
From the original story and on to the television and even movies ("Thomas and the Magic Railroad"), Thomas the Tank Engine has reached out to thousands of young children (even those as young as 2 or 3) all over the world through its various product lines, such as books, bed and bedroom articles, shoes and clothing, bath and bathroom articles, school supplies, bags/backpacks, party supplies, lunchbox and plates, and home videos (in CDs and DVDs).
Among these, the toys, especially the Thomas the Train railway set is perhaps the most famous with children. With the "Thomas the Train Set," children are able to have a 'hands-on' experience of Thomas' tales and adventures, either on their own or with their friends.
