Thomas the Train Toys: A Quick Glance

Thomas the Train and other characters of the popular television program are featured in various toy lines available at The Learning Shop and several other retailers. A good number of individuals and smaller local stores also offer both new and used toys and related items based on the smiling tank engine. Let's take a closer look at some of the Thomas the Train toys available:

The Limited Edition Thomas Comes to Breakfast is a wooden train set ideal for children 3 years and above. This educational toy package of the famous tank and his friends works on the story line where the train has his face plastered by an egg.

The Thomas the Tank - Thumper has Thomas thumping his arms in and out while he rolls along.

The Brio Wooden Train Set is a Water Tower Figure 8 package that has 25 pieces and is touted as a good introduction for beginning Thomas collectors.

The store also offers Deluxe Cranky the Crane. Children can move the crane and have its electronic arm lift cargo with the press of a button.

Thomas the Tank - Deluxe Roundhouse has the train joined by his friends at the Roundhouse. Buttons can be used by children to make five different railway sounds and have the trains automatically move out through front doors. This educational toy also features a Round-about Action Turntable.

Thomas and his friend Cranky the crane see each other in the Thomas Down by the Docks set.

In Ivo Hugh with Zoo Cars, Hippo is pulled along as a sliding door shows animals hiding in the car. The movement is accompanied by Hippo's mouth moving up and down.

The Thomas The Tank Puzzle in a Tin has 35 pieces in a colorful container. The puzzle is also good for children three and above and measures 12" x 17" when completed.

In Rusty with Construction Cars, the cement mixer moves as Thomas' friend pulls it along. A detachable magnetic sand cargo item is also available with the hinged dumper.

A Limited supply Lorry with Flatbed presents Lorry 1 - the truck is the protagonist in the story line. The flatbed comes with magnetic cargo that can be loaded onto Lorry 1.

Washing Thomas and his cars is the idea behind Sodor Scrub and Shine. This set features foam grips that runs the vehicle through the wash by turning the crank and a knob to control sudsy water.

Items that can be added by children to their Thomas the Tank collection include Bulgy the Bus, Iron 'Arry & Bert, George the Steamroller, Mr. Jolly's Chocolate Factory, Caroline the Car, the Gold Prospector's Car and the 14-piece Suretrack.

The Suretrack allows the set-up of tracks even on carpet and various layouts for the BRIO and wooden railway packages. The stability provided by Suretrack allows children to actively play with Thomas and his friends without worrying about jolts and bumps.

Another setting for Thomas is offered in the Thomas the Tank - Scrap Yard. The package comes with crushable magnetic cargo and Lorry. An emergency situation is presented in Thomas Rescue Hospital. In this set, an ambulance moves out of the station as the helicopter pad is pressed. Rescue Hospital allows children to connect the track to the road using a ramp.

Thomas the Tank - Harold's Mail Delivery Set has 32 pieces. Children can enjoy another friend of Thomas with this set in Harold, which transports mail and cargo using a magnet. The package also features an exclusive Mail Station.

Outside of the typical trains and railway items that make up a good number of Thomas The Train toy sets, one slight deviation is available in the Melody Thomas Engineer Bear. This PLUSH 14-inch bear plays the theme song of the popular tank engine. A smaller 8-inch model is also in the market.

One big Thomas the Train toy that preschoolers can be really active with is Scootin' Sounds Thomas. Children can ride this toy, be pushed along by a companion or push the toy themselves. Scootin' Sounds Thomas is motion-activated, with any push or pull generating engine sounds that can be set at different volume levels. The riding toy also offers railroad crossing and whistle sounds.

Thomas ABC House is a set of 24 1 3/4 inch blocks showing numbers, letters and images with the train as the dominant design. The set comes in an 8" x 11" wooden storage case with a transparent sliding lid.

The C battery-operated Thomas Flashlight is designed with Thomas the Train and his friends. This tin flashlight also comes with a flash button and key chart that use the Morse Code and a siren whistle.
